Cary J. Mogerman Installed As President Of American Academy Of Matrimonial Lawyers

Carmody MacDonald P.C. is proud to announce that Cary J. Mogerman, partner and practice group leader of the firm’s family law group, has been installed as president of the elite American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), the top professional organization for matrimonial and family law attorneys in the United States. Cary was sworn in as the AAML President at the Academy’s annual meeting in Chicago on November 12.

Mr. Mogerman’s law practice focuses on complex dissolution of marriage matters involving substantial assets, business interests, professional practices, complex executive compensation from private or public companies, child custody, maintenance and spousal support, and related appellate practice in family law.

The AAML was founded in 1962 and numbers over 1500 Fellows across the country. The AAML’s stated purpose is “to provide leadership that promotes the highest degree of professionalism and excellence in the practice of family law.” Fellows of the Academy represent individuals in a wide variety of family law matters, including divorce, prenuptial agreements, postnuptial agreements, annulment, child custody and visitation, property valuation and division, alimony, and child support. Academy Fellows must be recognized by the bench and bar in their jurisdictions as leaders in their field and have passed national and state examinations, while also satisfying peer review of other attorneys and judges in their states.

Mr. Mogerman became a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers in 1995 and has served in leadership since 2006 when he became a member of its Board of Governors as Missouri’s chapter representative. He became a member of the executive committee of the Academy in 2012, serving two years as Treasurer and thereafter as one of its Second Vice-Presidents. He was installed as First Vice-President of the Academy in 2019 during its annual meeting in Chicago. Throughout his upcoming one-year term as president of the national organization, he will visit other states’ chapters of the Academy to continue to foster the mission and growth of the AAML.

Mr. Mogerman is also a Diplomate of the American College of Family Trial Lawyers, an invitation-only assemblage limited to 100 members from throughout the United States, and one of only two Missouri Fellows of the International Academy of Family Lawyers. In 2018, he was recognized as one of the AAML’s two ‘Fellows of the Year.’

In addition to teaching and professional speaking and writing, Mr. Mogerman co-authored, with Joseph Kodner, an informational book about divorce law for non-attorneys entitled, “A Guide to Divorce in Missouri: Simple Answers to Complex Questions” (Addicus Books 2017).
